Chapter Nine

“He wants us to have a threesome,” said the guy Bill’s partner had been half in love with for ten years.

And Bill would laugh, perhaps, if there wasn’t an absolute mayhem of emotions happening inside him as he was left trying to make sense of it all, whether he wanted to or not.

He felt like he’d been on a damn roller coaster ever since Adrian Marlow had arrived in town. Any time he’d thought he was maybe getting off that ride, something had happened to push him onto it again. And somewhere along the way he’d realized he was no longer struggling with only Roy’s emotions anymore. His growing…awareness of Adrian had messed him up, too.

And now the two of them were proposing a threesome.

The warning bells in his head were fighting with the rush of heat that ran through him, igniting his body and overwhelming his senses. The fear that just a few minutes ago was like an acid inside him now disappeared, cowed into a corner by the need to take, and mark, and claim.

And Roy wasn’t the only one Bill wanted to mark—or claim.

Then there was that synchronizing heartbeat thing again. He remembered it from after the accident, but now it was hard to miss.

Bill stared at Roy for a long moment, searching for—he wasn’t sure what. A sign that it was an ultimatum? Traces of doubt? Something that would make it easy for him to say no?

But as he watched Roy, who stared back with an open expression of love and trust, along with desire, Bill realized he didn’t want to say no. He was scared, yes, but he was no longer scared of losing what he had with Roy.

Instead, he was afraid of the things he didn’t know—things he’d never experienced, hadn’t even thought about. Roy was what kept him grounded right now. It was Adrian who was a gamble.

Bill sucked his lower lip into his mouth as he turned his gaze to Adrian and let himself really look. The man had to be nervous, judging from how his leg bounced up and down and how his scent had gotten sharper, but he still stared straight at Bill despite it all, his pupils dilated under the scrutiny.

He wanted Bill. It wasn’t just a way to have Roy, to get him into bed. No. Adrian’s gaze dropped to his mouth and his breath caught when Bill let go of his lower lip with a quiet pop. His heartbeat picked up then settled back to their shared rhythm, but Bill was left to wonder what it would take to make him lose control, make him let go.

Back at the scene of the accident, Adrian had complied with everything Bill had said. Would he be willing to listen in the bedroom, too?

Bill’s cock hardened at that.

“Any rules we need?” he said in a low, throaty tone he reserved for Roy.

Both men in front of him stared at him in silence as their heartbeats sped up. He rubbed his hand over his chest without thinking but it seemed to settle all three of them.
